Final Project-Unit 202.2-Fish Market and Restaurant

Project Brief
In the final project, we are asked to design a fish market at Old Portsmouth the Camber which evokes its historic site. Throughout history Camber Harbour has been a busy well protected port and the site and its surroundings have been a dockyard, a fishing harbour, a coal depot and an array of warehouse. Today, the structure on the project site are the unattractive sheds of a wholesale and retail fish merchant. In the immediate surroundings today you will find a working fishing harbour, private boat moorings, residential developments, a bar/restaurant and car parks for the nearby ferry port.
The project seeks to address the issues outlined above by providing a fish market and fish restaurant which will attract visitors and contribute to the regeneration of the Camber harbour area. The market will be designed to bring together the fish retailers in and around the site. The market is to include a two-storey-height space with a main ground floor area for the fish market. There will be a veiwing gallery on the upper floor and this could also be a part of the retail market or ot could be linked with the fish restaurant.

Site analysis

In the previous weeks i tried to create a steel frame structure cladding with timber in the present site. I divided the spatial to two buildings. Main building in te north side is the office element and the secondary building in the south side the activity centre.

Planning diagram

Site Plan

After first time visited the site, I can said that if i didnt walk in to the market. I even dont know there is a fish market. The existing fish market is a unattractive block. People even dont know there is a fish market. So I want to create a building that even people dont walk in to it they can recognise that there is a fish market.

Conceptual drawing

My Design Schme i want to create the fishing market like the process of fishing. And the main element are Boats, Sail and fishing net. So the Main Building is boats and the Secondary building is a undulating roof coving the activity part( restaurant, chip shop and delicatessen.

Unit 280-Field Trip(New York)

Study Trip 22/3/2010-26/3/2010

Study Field Trip with group of architectural student. We spent 5 days in new york it was my first to New York. We are all very excited and we have so much to do and see.
And we set up a website and we put all the information and analysis that each of us are giving buildings or places to be researched.

The place that I researched: Grand Central Terminal

Watertanks on top of the buildings, watertank are ubiquitous in New York city skyline, you can see it everywhere in new york.

Flatiron Building, 175 Fifth Avenue
One of the first skyscraper in New York. The building sits on a triangular island block at 23rd Street, Fifth Avenne and Broadway, anchoring the south end of Madison Square.

Fire escape found on mulitiple-story residential for emergency use only. The ladder from the lowest level of the fire escape to the ground maybe fixed but more commonly it swings down on a hinge or slides down along a track.

Project 2-Unit201.2-Field Study Centre

Project Brief

We are asked to design a study centre for school childrean 8-11. The centre is a place that school group vivis to study the environment and to investtigate historial buildings and their cultural and enviromental context.

The site
This project is located at the weald and Downland Museum at Singleton West Sussex and the site forms part of the 50-acre open air museum and is set amongst the rolling chalk hills of the South Downs. The area chosen for the location of your building has beenm set to the South East of the site on a steep slope with wonderful views looking north and west and with broad leaf deciduous trees to south. The location of buildings will be influenced by the specific context including topography, mirco climate , orientation, prevailing winds, sun path, views, landscaping proposals. You are therefore to consider how the building relates to the sensitivity of its context, to educational objective and function, and to the requirements of the site.

Project one-Unit 201.1-Paradigm project

Project brief:

Design a 'complement' to the poject beigs studied in our group-a 'piece', a 'thing' an ;item'-within the context of the project's location. it may or may not have an obvious finction but it must be purposeful.

It must also:

  • employ the devices you have identified in the "host" project
  • provides shelter and/or enclosure
  • work with the landscape in which it is set
  • consider materiality, surface and texture
  • occupy a volume no less than 8 and no more than 125m

The Archtect whose work is studied in our group : Alvar Aalto- Maison Louris Carre

Design Device:
The plan of villa louis carre can be arranged as an abstract conhesion of retangles.

The horizontal axis is in a cccordance with the topography and the roof slope.
While the vertical ones mark the 3 main zones that determine the house's orientation.
And the house is divided into 3 zones: Private, Public and semi public.

Use of Local Material

Concept:
The house Masion Louis Carre is now owed by the Association Alvar Aalto and open for public to visit. So i want to design serices of sitting components for visitors to set down and understanding the design device of the house.

The components:
Overlap cube seats inside the cylinder.
Cube seats represent the spatial divison
Cylinder is like the landscape
